So around £70 in tax. That kind of hurts when you see how cheap a microwave or CD/DVD player is now. I appreciate it's all about mass production but.... :shocked:

Not cheap admittedly. You'd be best off finding another from a scrap yard or removing the existing one, dismantling it (potentially breaking it open and gluing it back together with epoxy resin) and giving it a good clean and greasing up.

I've never found silicon lube, wd40 or 3in1 any good for long term stuff - short term yes but for the longer term i'd use something a bit thicker or even stuff from round the house like cooking oil.

Moons ago i had a computer with a very noisy graphics card fan - it used to sound like a bee! I peeled the label off and knowing that wd40 would stink and not do much good, I melted some margarine in a spoon and poured that into the fan bearing and put the sticker back over. It never made another sound after that!
